Had a little break in Okinawa recently. I went to Zamami island after a job I had down there.
I never traveled outside of Tokyo before, not even to Hakone or Kyoto. So this was my first trip outside. The place is beautiful. There were sea turtles and lots of beaches with beautiful water.
Zamami is a small island in the Kerama group – about 2 hours sail from Naha. It’s easy to get to, and there’s a campsite and a few hotels BUT….the only place in Japan with no combini! There’s pretty much nothing there – just snorkel and dive shops and a few cafes. It’s paradise actually once you realise it rains a lot of the time. And this is the driest month, but it still rained a lot. The weather is really hot, but this heat in Tokyo is actually hotter, just not so atsuimushi!
Things to do – snorkel, swim, sleep on the beach, dive, eat, walk up and down all the hills on the island, go island hopping.
So I had an awesome time and was glad to do a small job and take a bit of holiday time my FIRST! Yay for Japan. Oh yeah I learned some real Okinawa language down there. Yeah yeah. True. Hai hai…..
Now I’m back and wishing you all the best for this upcoming summer month!
