Hello! This is my first blog post here! First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Zen and I am from Malaysia. I have been in Japan for almost 9 months. I am a student in Akamonkai Japanese Language School, so basically I am studying Japanese Language. I am planning to go to a japanese University next year, so I am working hard everyday.
I have moved to 3 houses since I came. When I first came to Japan, I stayed in my school’s dorm which is just 5 minutes walk from school. It was a big shock to see how small the room is. Even my parents were worried about me. I did not like it too much too, but I am very happy to know some of my housemates that are very very friendly. One of them is still my best friend until now. Anyway, talking about how small the room is, it was definitely one of the culture shock that I have been through. My home in Malaysia is a terrace house, and my room is very spacious. So that is the main reason why i don’t like a dorm. Plus, it is not cheap.
After 3 months, I moved to an apartment studio in Chiba, which takes around 50 minutes from home to school, and around 1.5 hours from home to work. I moved there because I found out about a job that I could exchange with rent. My monthly pay for an apartment studio is just 30,000 yen in exchange of cleaning some rooms in that building that were meant for Airbnb guests. All i could say is, it was hectic. I have school, part time job, and cleaning jobs now. Plus, going home takes me 1 hour. So, I go out at 8am and usually comes home at 11pm. I was working my ass off the whole time, and I then realise that I don’t enjoy Japan as much as I imagine I would want to. I have lost all interest as a curious baby. I was sick of my life. That was not the actual aim I came to Japan.

So, after another 6 months, I decided to move to somewhere nearer to Tokyo so I would not need to sit too long in the train. My friend has introduced my to Oakhouse back when I first came. It was a great concept, I first thought. So, I took a look at their website this time. Sharehouse is not my first choice, because I do want to have my own private space. But, when I saw the Social Residence series, I changed my mind. The room looks spacious, the common area looks amazing. So at first I went to look at 2 houses, Social Residence Urawa and Social Residence Minami Urawa. For Social Residence Minami Urawa, I was surprised to see that there were gym, public bath, music room, theatre room and other wonderful facilities which is so awesome! For Social Residence Urawa, they do not have as much extraordinary facilities, but the house looks clean, huge kitchen and dining area, and also spacious room. So, I wrote down the pros and cons of both houses, and finally Social Residence Urawa won.
The main reason that I chose here is , I want a spacious room. I will be spending alot of time in my room, so I want it to be a space that can give me inspiration, makes me feel comfortable, and gives me positive vibes everyday. I have just moved in, but I have already talked to a few of my housemates. They are really nice people. I will feature my housemates next time in the future.
